Eco-Friendly Alternatives to Common Household Cleaning Products
2021 is your year to make a difference!
Happy New Year from all at Pristine Eco Cleaning Services!
As we move into 2021 it can feel as though little has changed, but there is now a light at the end of the tunnel with the year ahead. Just hang in there!
There's no doubt we've become more aware of cleanliness and hygiene over this past year - masks, hand sanitisers and social distancing playing key roles in reducing the transmission of Coronavirus.
But when it comes to our everyday cleaning activities around the home, there is a hidden consequence of the products we use.
A lot of today's cleaning products contain synthetic ingredients that come from the petrochemical industry. These can be harmful to the environment if allowed to make their way into our rivers and oceans untreated. Cleaning chemicals can also affect our health when used around the home, potentially causing the onset of asthma and allergies.
Some studies have been done to investigate the potential negative effects of these chemicals. This scientific review highlighted that epidemiological studies have shown an association between cleaning work and asthma.
So what can we do to minimise our impact?
There are many alternatives available on the market today which are eco-friendly, vegan-approved and better for our health.
Here are some brands you might want to consider:
Most of these brands offer a variety of products including hand soaps, all-purpose cleaners, toilet cleaners, kitchen cleaners and dishwasher tablets.
They all use plant-based ingredients which are biodegradable and non-hazardous, unlike some traditional chemicals found in household cleaning products.
Better still, some can be refilled at local, zero-waste shops which help reduce plastic waste!
We thought we’d do some preliminary shopping for you and here’s what we’ve found…
Tesco currently have Ecover cleaning products including toilet cleaner, laundry liquid, multi-action spray and washing up liquid on clubcard offers. They also have Method products on clubcard offers including the antibacterial all-purpose cleaner, bathroom cleaner, kitchen cleaner and much more!
Bio-D (our personal favourite!) can usually be found at independent stores such as Glossop Wholefoods, where they stock a range of their products. They also have a refilling service where they can top up a variety of these for you.
